FAQ

Questions buyers ask before an enquiry

What to send, which material to start from, and what is issued with the first parts. These answers describe how an enquiry is handled — grade-specific figures travel on the data sheet, not on this page.

What do you need from me to quote a ceramic part?

Four answers: what the part does and what it touches (temperature, media, electrical duty), the quantity band and the lead time you are working to, a drawing with tolerances marked only on the functional surfaces, and the inspection you need. With those four the reply is a proposed grade, a forming route, the inspection points that will be checked, and a quotation. A dimensioned sketch is enough to start; a released drawing can follow.

Which file formats can I send, and how large can the file be?

PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, ZIP and the usual Office formats through the enquiry form, up to 10 MB per file. If a drawing set is larger than that, send a note to sales@vintel-ceramics.com and we will arrange another route rather than have you compress the file until the dimensions stop being readable.

Can you make a part that is not one of the catalogue forms?

Yes. The catalogue groups parts by shape so that an enquiry has somewhere to start, but most work is built to drawing: grade selection, geometry, tolerance, surface finish and inspection are agreed before production and then held from the first sample through the batch.

Why are there no prices or material figures on the site?

Because both depend on the part. A price follows the drawing, the grade and the quantity band. Purity, density, strength and dielectric values differ between grades sold under the same family name, so they are issued on the data sheet for the grade actually quoted instead of being published as a general claim. Ask for the data sheet of a specific grade and you receive the figures that apply to it.

Which material should I start with for high temperature and electrical insulation at the same time?

Alumina is the usual starting point where a part has to insulate and hold its shape at temperature. Where the duty adds repeated thermal cycling or mechanical load while hot, silicon nitride is worth comparing. The material pages state which environment each system suits and what it does not; the final selection still needs the four answers above.

How is quality controlled, and what comes with the first parts?

The quality system is ISO 9001. Inspection points are agreed at quotation, before the run, and the first-article inspection report gives dimensional results against those points together with the first sample. The current ISO 9001 certificate is issued on request.

What is the smallest quantity you will run?

Quantity is one of the four inputs, and the answer depends on the form: a prototype batch and a production run are quoted on different routes. Tell us the band you are working to and the quotation will say which route applies.

Have a drawing to put in front of an engineer?

Send the file with the four answers and the reply comes back as a proposed grade, a process route and a quotation.
