Machinery & Hardware

Components for production machinery where metal wears, galls or conducts where it should not.

Machine builders come to ceramics from two directions: a part that wears out too fast, or a part that has to insulate where metal cannot. Both land in the same enquiry, but they need different grades.

Cycle rate usually decides the answer. A part running millions of cycles is judged on wear rate and debris; a part running hot is judged on stability and isolation.

Material systems we start from

What we would propose first

A starting point, not a specification. The grade is confirmed against your equipment, the geometry and the duty.

Alumina

Insulation and general wear duty at the lowest cost of the four.

Material details

Zirconia

High-cycle contact parts that need toughness and a polished face.

Material details

Silicon carbide

Severe sliding wear, and where thermal conductivity helps.

What decides the choice

The four conditions we ask about

  • Machine cycle rate and the number of cycles expected
  • Load, speed and the mating surface
  • Medium, lubrication or cleaning chemistry
  • The space available and how the part is fixed

This page is selection guidance for an enquiry. It states no performance figures and is not a specification. Request the material data sheet for grade-specific values.
